Why is the Test Done?
This test measures the amount of glucose in urine. It is used as a screening and monitoring test for diabetes. Normally, very low levels of glucose are present in urine (0-15mg/dl) as it is reabsorbed by the kidney. However, when levels of blood glucose become high, the kidney fails to reabsorb it, allowing it to pass in urine. Causes of glycosuria (glucose in urine ) include diabetes, kidney disease, pregnancy, pancreatic disease, burns and infection.
